MISSION STATEMENT
Real Zero is a non-profit organisation dedicated to catalysing social and economic change, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the pace and scale required.
We use the latest climate science and news to inform actions which we can all take - as individuals, businesses, and healthcare systems.

Located in Central London, we partner with the National Health Service and private healthcare providers to address scope 1 & 2 emissions through renewable energy deployment, power purchase agreements [PPAs], improved buildings and estates efficiency, and banking/ finance. We also target scope 3 emissions, especially those related to supply chains and procurement, and also food. Our approach combines education, action, and collaboration to create meaningful change.
SOLUTIONS - ORIENTED
Most of us are tired of hearing about the scale of the problem, without knowing the solutions.
We provide a set of clear ACTIONS which we can all take to reduce scope 1 - 3 emissions, and to catalyse the change we need.

Scope 1 Emissions are those from you/ your organisation directly burning fossil fuels- gas in boilers, petrol/diesel in engines in cars.
EXAMPLE ACTIONS: replace with electric power from 100% renewable resources; reduce use by air source heat pumps/ driving less

Scope 2 Emissions are those from purchased power
EXAMPLE ACTIONS: change to a 100% renewable power supplier; install renewable power generation (e.g. solar cells); organisations can Power Purchase Agreements and improving building energy efficiency.

Scope 3 Emissions are those from the activity you 'make happen' or the products and services you buy.
EXAMPLE ACTIONS: We can all 'buy less and better'; health systems can work to prevent disease, avoid unnecessary tests and interventions, minimise [patient visits, and make pathways lean and efficient. Contracts must mandate companies to commit to 'real' emission reductions and timescales to do so. Move to local, seasonal plant-based diets. Move to banks that don't fund fossil fuel extraction, and move investments.

WHY HEALTHCARE?
Healthcare employs over 150 million people worldwide and over 1.4 million people in the UK alone. If we all act together, the world changes.
THERE ARE A LOT OF US.
Healthcare accounts for nearly $12 in every $100 spent worldwide - more, if consumer healthcare products are included . We have huge reach across supply chains. From packaging to food, there are few industries with which we don’t interact. Move this money and the world economy shifts too.

Not a single person or business engaged in healthcare can justify harming people as collateral damage. By adopting these solutions and eliminating our reliance on fossil fuels, we can reduce emissions and build a more sustainable and resilient future for ourselves and future generations.
